Fast Forward

I am way behind in this blog. For some reason I feel it necessary to stick to chronological order, but just a heads up. Finished exams today (scored 12 out of 12 btw) and so we have a week off. I am going to Berlin for 3 days and then to Amsterdam for 4 days. Farvel!

This is how I always keep my food shelf stocked.

Lots of alcohol, some very cheap carbs, and a bag of cheap fruit: the source of all my nutrients.

My apartment has this series of tubes with several trash chutes on each floor that travel underground and over to the nearby street where the garbage man comes with a giant vacuum and sucks it all out without leaving the comfort of his truck.
Cleaning with inadequate tools.

There are many of these giant spiders around. One got into my room. I've been told that spiders only leave in a good atmosphere so it is a good sign to see them in your home. This spider is crawling on my mysterious fixture that looks like it could be a light, but nobody in our building knows what it does.

I have never really liked yog(h)urt. It seems to be quite popular over here so I decided to try some. It's delicious! This 4 korn is my favorite. They are just 3 kroner each, and come with little flakes of granola inside.

This is some graffiti in the stairs in my building. This is not good, but some of the graffiti here is amazing. I just have no pictures of it.

Here are some pictures from the NOT sketchy bar. (There is a bar that we call the sketchy bar, it has graffiti on every wall and a skeleton upstairs.. for some reason)

I absolutely love this toilet. Not only is it covered completely in graffiti, all the way to the actual seat of the toilet. But for some reason it is up on a pedestal. The tiny bathroom has two steps up to the toilet.
The first time I was waiting in line some girl came up and told me there was another bathroom just for guys with no line around the corner. There was no other bathroom. I don't like her.

Another school sanctioned event. The most touristy of all possible activities in Copenhagen. The canal tour.

Makes you want to be an architect, doesn't it?

And go on a cruise.

Yeah, I'm twelve.

This is the oldest flag in Denmark.

After the canal tour, some of use headed over to Ryan's house to begin drinking far too early.

I saw chickens on the way.

Alice i Eventyrland.

By 5, we were drunk and hanging out in the cemetery, after realizing the bars were all empty at this hour.
The cemetery is actually a popular place for sunbathing and going on walks.
Oh, this is Jon, Chase, and Ryan. Max was also with us.
Hi Hans.
Hi Kierkegaard.

This was a Tuesday. Ryan and I had plans to check out the popular club, Rust,  the next day. But neither of us felt up to it.

But, on Thursday Ryan found out about this bar that had free vodka shots at this bar called Drone. This was some of the best fun I have ever had.
Here they are in all their glory:
I was a sceptic and did not believe it was possible. As a pessimistic American I though there had to be a catch, or some marketing trick.
But no, all the shots you want from 9-11. Dane's don't go out before 11 so I guess bars need some way to get people there earlier. We arrived 5 minutes to 11, the man poured 2 more of these trays in that time.

Met this guy who kept talking about Zack Galifianakis. Apparently his stand up is very funny and it is unbelievable that I have never seen it. I watched The Hangover a couple days later because of this encounter.

Ryan is a lot of fun. He snuck behind when the DJs were gone. It was 60s-70s classic rock night. A fun time for all.
Also met/danced/talked with some gorgeous danish girls. 3 in 5 women here are stunning.

I found this picture in my phone, unsure exactly where it came from. I thought it was from Ryan's apartment. But later when I went to Drone another time, I saw this wonderful piece of vandalism again in the bathroom when by chance I walked into the exact same stall.

Ryan went home on is own and left me there. I am never ready to leave, which suits me great in this city that does not sleep.
I stayed for a while, but eventually decided it was time to go home. I biked back to Ryan's place and gave him a call. I had left my backpack there. No answer, but somehow when I was there I met this Swedish girl.
I am not sure exactly how it went down, but I think I just gave up on my backpack without even trying the doorbell and started walking home with Fannie. She is also living on Amager(the island I live on) so we had the same trek home. I walked my bike.
When we get to the bridge, she suggests we go for a swim in the canal. Sounds like a great plan to me.
As soon as we approach it she just strips and jumps in. I am quick to follow. Now you understand why our hair is wet in the above picture.
The water was actually very warm, and felt great to swim in. I am also surprised at my ability to drunkenly swim at 5:00 in the morning.
It's true what the say about how Scandinavians have no qualms about nudity. As we are yelling at people up on the bridge to come join us, to guys actually stop and talk back. This girl just walks up the stairs that lead to the middle of the bridge and starts walking topless on the largest street in København.
They come over and talk to us for a little bit, but they would not join us in the water.
Eventually we get out and continue walking. Fanni wants to go to Christiania. Christiania is this hippy community left over from the 60s. It is a place where many things are legal that are not in the rest of Denmark.  Fannie wants to smoke before she goes to sleep.
The problem is I have class in 2 hours. Class with a midterm that day. And Christiania is the opposite direction of my home.
I stupidly decide I should go home and get an hour of sleep and we part ways. She tells me to look her up on facebook. She seemed convinced it would be easy to find her. Just look for the "Fannie" from Sweden. She had been making fun of her name all night. Apparently it means something pretty bad in German and she had a rough time when she was there. And we all know how it means in English.
I bike home and get my hours of sleep. Show up late to class, but at least I made it. Thank you so much Ryan for lugging my backpack with the heavy bottle of høker snaps in it to class on your bike. He was more hungover than I have ever seen someone that day.
I never found her on facebook. It almost seems like she purposefully didn't want me to find her. Except that she was the one that brought it up. It's not like I asked for her information and that is what she told me to do. She specifically suggested that I need to find her facebook.

Oh well, as the saying goes, there are plenty of other topless Swedes in the Canal.

Tivoli er Fedt!

A class trip to Frilandsmusee:
Waiting for the train. I am terrible at getting pictures of people. Luckily paparazzi Ryan here is constantly getting candid shots.

The tour guides dress up in their old timey attire.

This place had old buildings from all across Denmark and Sweden and Germany (The parts that used to be part of Denmark) They spend millions to transport these houses and reassemble them here.
Back then the women stood for dinner, they made a giant thing of rugbrød that would last them a month, they kept a huge pile of animal and some human shit meters away from where they slept and ate (to show off their wealth) and they drank beer instead of water. The water was unsanitary so it was safer to brew it into beer first.

A fancy house with its own crapping seat.

 I loved this goat.

This bus was parked in a parking lot right next to my building.

I didn't get many good pictures of it, but that friday we went to Tivoli, the amusement park in the center of København. Lilli's aunt lives here and has a year pass, so she could get us all in for free. We still had to pay for the ride pass, but it was only 160 kr. instead of the 300 kr. it would normally cost.
We met up with several of Lilli's friends from London. They were fun, but we all kept getting separated.
Tivoli had a lot of fun rides. Most memorable were the falling ride, because you get a great view of the city, and the airplane ride. Its just an airplane on a swivel that flies in a loop over and over. But it goes so fast that you are pressed against your seat, wind stretching your face. Once someone hit and killed a seagull with their face, but they were ok after going to the hospital.
The ride we most wanted to go on was the swing ride. Just one of those normal swing rides that go in circles, but it goes really high up, probably giving an amazing spinning view. We were sitting in the seats when they told us it wasn't working. =(
Heres a random fountain from within Tivoli, the only picture that came out.

Afterwards we decided to buy some Akvavit at the 7-11 while we waited for everyone to regroup.

Akvavit and Faxe Kondi. A terrible/wonderful combination. I still don't know what to think about Akvavit.

Drinking out of stolen 7-11 cups in front of the city center. The four of us finished off the bottle.
Oh, I guess you readers may not know. This is Max, Lilli, and Sam.
We then met up with the British girls and headed off to a bar. A lot of the bars here look small, but then have secret basements with a huge dancefloor. Fun was had by all.
We somehow lost Lilli and Sam when the British girls wanted a 10 kr hamburger from McDonalds. McDonald's may very well now be my new favorite drunken fast food. (I only eat fast food with the aid of alcohol) I don't understand why they are never open late in the US. Why would you ever go there before midnight?
The girls in front of H.C.A

We walked back to Tietgen with them. They wanted to ride our bicycles. My chain fell off and got jammed.
It wasn't until I left everyone at Tietgen and tried to fix my bike that I realized it was really stuck. I would be bikeless for 5 days. A truly horrible thing in København.

I will leave you with a 'trip' through the Hans Christian Anderson ride. It's basically like the It's a Small World of Tivoli.

 Goodbye Hans!
